The Heart Behind JADE Supplements
Diana Licalzi, MS, RD, CDCES
Co-Founder of JADE Supplements | Registered Dietitian
Diana is a nationally recognized Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), and holds a Master’s degree in Nutrition Science and Policy from the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition.
She began her career in a very different field – after earning a Bachelor's degree in Communications from Villanova University, Diana worked in sports marketing at Major League Baseball for over three years. But her passion for health and nutrition inspired her to change careers. In 2015, she completed her Master’s at Tufts University and later her dietetic training at Simmons College and UC San Diego Health, where she worked in clinical settings focused on diabetes, cardiology, and oncology.
From the start, Diana’s connection to type 2 diabetes was very personal. She grew up watching family members struggle with the illness, especially her grandfather, who had type 2 diabetes and relied heavily on insulin without knowing how much diet could help. During her training, Diana realized just how powerful nutrition and lifestyle changes can be in reversing and preventing diabetes. That moment sparked her mission.
She went on to work in various healthcare settings, including hospitals and outpatient clinics. Witnessing patients undergo dialysis–often caused by diabetes–had a lasting impact on her. It was heartbreaking, and it fueled her commitment to preventing such complications through education and lifestyle change.
Eventually, Diana became a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and worked alongside doctors and specialists at Boston Medical Center, Labcorp, and InsideTracker. While she gained valuable experience in traditional healthcare, she felt limited in the extent to which she could help. She began educating others online and sharing her knowledge on social media, which led her to eventually connect with Jose.
Today, Diana lives in London, England, with her husband and son. She is also passionate about travelling, plant-forward cooking, and exercise.
Jose Tejero
Co-Founder of JADE Supplements | Exercise Physiologist
Jose Tejero is an exercise physiologist and two-time Ironman Triathlete. Jose originally planned to become a physician. While completing pre-med coursework at the University of Maryland, he worked alongside doctors who used plant-based nutrition and lifestyle interventions to treat chronic disease. During this time, he witnessed dramatic improvements in patients with type 2 diabetes—including individuals who significantly lowered their A1c in a matter of months through nutrition and movement alone. These experiences reshaped his understanding of health and revealed the powerful role lifestyle plays in metabolic recovery.
After speaking with physicians about the structural limitations of traditional healthcare, Jose shifted his path and changed his major to Exercise Science. He recognized that improving muscle insulin sensitivity, body composition, and metabolic flexibility was central to long-term blood sugar control–yet rarely emphasized in standard care.
After graduating as an Exercise Physiologist, Jose continued to deepen his expertise in metabolic health, working alongside scientists and clinicians who use nutrition and exercise to address insulin resistance and diabetes.
In 2021, Jose challenged himself by training for one of the most demanding endurance events in the world: an Ironman triathlon. The race consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a full marathon. After completing his first Ironman, he went on to successfully finish a second the following year. While competitive endurance is not required for metabolic health, Jose views this experience as proof of what consistent systems–nutrition, movement, recovery, and supplementation–can achieve when aligned.
Jose is currently working towards becoming a Clinical Exercise Physiologist and a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, combining his two passions, exercise and diabetes.
Today, Jose lives in Maryland with his fiancée, his dog Bruno, and cat Jiji. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, staying active outdoors, biking, lifting, and optimizing his recovery.
How JADE Supplements Came to Be
Diana and Jose met in 2019 and quickly realized they shared the same mission: helping people take control of their blood sugar through nutrition, movement, and sustainable lifestyle changes.
That mission led to the creation of Type 2 Diabetes Revolution, where they’ve helped thousands of people address the root cause of blood sugar issues–not just manage the symptoms.
Over time, one thing became clear. While lifestyle change is essential, many people need extra support along the way, especially when it comes to improving insulin sensitivity. But most supplements on the market were either underdosed, overly complicated, or not designed to work with real lifestyle change.
That’s why JADE Supplements was created.
JADE was built to support the body while better habits are being formed–using clean, evidence-based ingredients in doses that actually make a difference. No hype. No shortcuts. Just real support for real metabolic health.
Together, Type 2 Diabetes Revolution and JADE Supplements exist to help people reclaim their blood sugar, feel confident in their bodies, and live healthier, fuller lives…naturally.
The JADE Supplements Philosophy
At JADE Supplements, we believe in a comprehensive approach to reversing insulin resistance and improving blood sugar levels. Nutrition and movement are essential, and supplementation serves as an additional tool to address the issue and accelerate your progress.
Our philosophy is rooted in NMS: Nutrition, Movement, and Supplementation. We know that true, lasting improvement happens when all three are in harmony.
- Nutrition provides the fuel your body needs to heal and thrive.
- Movement enhances insulin sensitivity and supports overall health.
- Supplementation offers targeted support to optimize your body’s ability to manage blood sugar.
JADE Supplements are designed not to replace lifestyle changes but to support them. Our evidence-based, clean formulations work alongside real food and consistent movement to help you see faster, more sustainable results.
We believe lifestyle change should feel achievable, not overwhelming. With the right tools in place, you can make lasting progress without the confusion or frustration often associated with blood sugar management.
